Mogamad Shameel Jeppie
Shamil Jeppie was educated in Cape Town and Princeton, where he received his PhD in History in 1996. He was a Post-doctoral fellow at Oxford University. He is presently Association Professor of History at the University of Cape Town. He has held positions on committees in numerous African and international research organisations such as Codesria, Sephis, and Society for the History of the Humanities. In 2020-21 he was a Fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin, and in 2023 a Fellow at I Tatti Harvard Centre for the Study of the Italian Renaissance.
he has published extensively on South African social history, the Sudan, and on the history of the book in Timbuktu.
