Stefan Weber
The Director of the Museum for Islamic Art at the Pergamon in Berlin, Germany. Previously, he was Assistant Professor of Material Culture at Aga Khan University in London. Between 1996 and 2007 he was researcher at the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) in Damascus and at the Orient-Institute Beirut (OIB).
His focus during the redevelopment of the museum lies on the accessibility for the general and divers public, starting several nationwide community programs, the one on refugees as guides for newcomers (Multaka) won several awards. He curated larger exhibitions, is cofounder of the prize-winning SAWA Museums Academy for young Museum professionals and directed several research and restoration projects. He initiated the Syrian Heritage Archive Project which is focusing among other on the tangible and intangible heritage for the reconstruction of Aleppo. He published widely on Middle Eastern heritages and is Honorary Professor at the Free University Berlin.
